In this article, I will review my experience with the Raleigh Tekoa Mountain bikeavailable on Amazon as well!

Being the first UK-based company to produce mass suspension bikes, Raleigh is known for has established itself as one of the best brands since its establishment in 1887 in Nottingham, England.

By the year 1913, Raleigh was one of the biggest manufacturers of bicycles in the world. Raleigh Tekoa Mountain bike is one of the best mountain bike models in the Raleigh line.

With a simple and lightweight design, this bike is purely made for the cross-country and mountain riders.

It comes in three different sizes and is ideal for people ranging from 5-6 feet tall.

This bike is not just for the beginners; it is also suited for the intermediate and pro riders as it does the job pretty well.

Some of the exclusive features of this bike include:

Its sturdy and lightweight frame allows for reliable and easy riding

The aluminum frame is the backbone of this great bike. The frame renders it lightweight, quick and easy to ride.

The aluminum frame is butted and attached with a tapered head tube. It is designed in a way that it enables you to pedal efficiently.

Whether you’re tackling the rocks or roots, you can be sure you have a got a great beast with you.

The butted frame assures you added strength and durability.

Prioritize comfort- saddle, seat post, and light weight

If you’re after comfort, then you got a blast.

Raleigh Tekoa has a lightweight Suntour XCT Air suspension fork that has a 100mm travel which supports the lightweight butted frame for extra riding comfort.

It assures you decent shock absorption for smooth rides regardless of the terrain you’re riding on.

The saddle and the seat post are other comfort points of this bike.

The geometry itself is professionally designed to give you extra comfort as you ascend and descend over the mountains.

It has a 140mm saddle with a dual bolt Raleigh 100 series seat post that gives it a responsive design.

It simply surpasses other models in the same niche regarding riding comfort.

Safety comes first – experience its powerful braking

It is hard to forego safety regardless of the bike brand you’re buying.

High-quality and powerful brakes are ideal especially when it comes to those sudden stops.

Raleigh Tekoa features sturdy Tektro Auriga hydraulic disc brakes that provide smooth, consistent and strong braking power.

Besides, the brakes are matched with 180/160mm rotors that help to improve braking in slippery terrains.

It comes 85% assembled

What’s more? Everything comes assembled. In fact, about 85% of its parts are assembled. There’s no need for stressful joining and disconnecting of parts.

You can adjust and fit various components with ease.

Excellent wheelset

Remember this is a 29er bike. The big and fast 29-inch wheels will give you a quick rollover speed.

Whether on rocks, dirt, grit or mud, this is a great bike that lets you ride over all obstacles.

In a nutshell, what I liked about the Tekoa

  • Strong aluminum frame that is lightweight
  • Large 29-inch wheels that can handle rocks and other obstacles while providing you added stability
  • Easy assembly
  • The parts are upgradable depending on your preferences
  • Nice looking design for the style-minded
  • Perfect geometry that makes it a versatile bike for tall riders
  • The double-walled rims add strength and support making it a rigid bike

A few of its flaws of Raleigh Tekoa

Although it is a good looking and performance-oriented bike, Tekoa lacks a water bottle.

This is a great addition especially if you love riding in the horrid summer heat.

Some of the parts are a little bit weak for extremely rough terrains. However, you get what you pay for.

You might need to make slight upgrades like the rear derailleur that makes some noise.

Additionally, the seat is a bit hard and solid. This can affect your comfort in case you prefer prolonged rides.

However, you can still upgrade the seat by replacing it altogether. Although the tires come inflated, you still need to buy an air pump because of the low psi.

The gloss finish on the aluminum frame is too much glossy. This makes it appear like a toy or something a bit fancy.

Comparison of Raleigh Tekoa with Tokul

Tokul is another model in the Raleigh line.

However, the later comes with a more relaxed geometry that gives you great handling as you advance your skills to more rigid trails.

Tokul has slightly smaller wheels of 27.5-inches and has no rear suspension.

This renders it a great option for the shorter riders who don’t like the aggressiveness of a 29er.

Those who adore the simplicity of hardtail bikes with no rear suspension will find this bike an excellent option with greater stability and easy handling.

Although Tekoa is a bit lower concerning pricing, the performance it provides is comparable to that of Tokul.

The two bikes contain a lot of similar features including:

  • The aluminum frame that greatly cuts the overall weight of the bike
  • Hydraulic disc brakes for convenient and reliable stopping power
  • Easy assembly. All the parts are 85% assembled. Very little work is left for you
  • Both bikes are made for those who love playing in rocky, rooty and rough trails
  • Both bikes have the same wheel width for added stability

Final Verdict

Tekoa is an affordable model compared to Tokul. You can’t beat the price of this bike.

Although the two bikes share most features including the lightweight design, easy handling, great rollover speed, comfort, and more, Tekoa is still a preferable model.

It is suited for most riders particularly the tall ones between 5- 6.5 feet. The large tires in Tekoa beat the slightly smaller ones in the Tokul.

In terms of comfort, Tekoa is also a winner. The seat post combined with the suspension fork make it a more comfortable option.
